Parents of Food Tech students: Have your chef prepare the Mac & Cheese Upgrade for your family at home. This comfort food is highly favored because of its ease, convenience, and taste. Food Tech students upgraded this well-loved food by adding steamed vegetables and seasoned chicken. Increasing nutritional value and the chance of satiety. Enjoy this delicious dish around the table to hear more from these creative chefs.

Parents: Here is a nice list of snack that are tree nut and peanut free snacks that are safe for our students who have allergies. If parents could consider choosing from the list when planning Halloween snack sharing. A kind reminder that our classrooms are peanut and tree nut free (this includes checking packaging ensuring that the snack was not made in a factory with tree nuts and peanuts). Here is a link to the list of snacks: https://snacksafely.com/guide/peanut-treenut-free/

High school students in Child Development have been working with our Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms to better understand interactions with young children. Last week, students led several different lessons around to topic of sorting. They are gaining great insight about teaching, learning, and positive human interactions. Here are some reflections from their experiences; "I noticed that Kindergartners are very curious and it can take a bit for them to concentrate and understand a concept."- Rose Johnson "Having time to talk with each of them individually is important." Allison Maulsby "We had to be flexible and help each other with our lesson." - Lia Fleming "We had to make adjustments during the lesson." - Josye Keltner

Emily Walden, Certified Nurse Midwife at Mile Bluff Medical Center is a passionate supporter of women's health and care in our community. She recently became aware of a great need in our local schools for feminine hygiene products. Emily held a drive on October 8th for donations to change this. Emily has chosen New Lisbon School District as one of the recipients of her collection efforts and we are so grateful! I am proud to work with such great leaders in our community who are passionate about empowering and educating our young ladies for success. Thank you Emily!

Student Influenza Vaccine Day- We will be holding a student influenza clinic here on November 3 for students in the entire district, hosted by the Juneau County Health Department free of charge. Consent forms were sent home on Friday, October 14th for the elementary. We will also have additional consents available in both administrative offices if needed. If your student attends Monday/Wednesday 4PK, and you would like them vaccinated, make plans to bring them in on November 3rd. For students aged 12 and older, the COVID booster will also be available. Please return the consents only if you would like your student boosted for either or both influenza and COVID. Routine influenza vaccination is recommended for all persons aged 6 months and older. Depending on whether they’ve received influenza vaccines in the past, some children younger than nine years of age will need two doses of vaccine spaced about 4 weeks apart. COVID boosters will be available for students aged 12 and older. Boosters are an important part of protecting yourself from getting seriously ill from COVID-19. They are recommended for most people. Please reach out to myself if you have additional questions or concerns. Students must be 5 months out from their primary vaccinations before receiving the booster. If a student has recently been infected with COVID, they should wait 3 months to get their booster. Students will not be vaccinated without the written consent of a parent - for each vaccination separately. Symptoms of influenza include fever, chills, sore throat, body aches, fatigue/tiredness, cough, headache and a runny or stuffy nose. As with any illness, we encourage you to keep your student home if there are any fevers, diarrhea, or vomiting for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication(s). Please contact myself with any questions or concerns. s.preuss@nlsd.k12.wi.us
