NLHS SCHOOL TO WORK PROGRAM RECOGNIZES MALLORY COWAN
Mr. Morey, New Lisbon School to Work Coordinator, wants to recognize the senior students who are involved in the School to Work Program at New Lisbon. These hardworking students go above and beyond excelling in the classroom and the workplace.
January’s Senior Salute is Mallory Cowan.
Mallory Cowan is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Crestview Nursing Home in New Lisbon. “I got my CNA certification during the summer in 2020. I began working for Crestview Nursing home in New Lisbon in October of 2020. I got in contact with Mr. Morey, who helped me get set up with Youth Apprenticeship.”
“Youth Apprenticeship has helped me get prepared for college. I will be done with high school at semester, but I will continue to work and save up money for when I go to college in the fall. It hasn’t been that much extra work on top of my job, and I’m happy to have participated in this program.”
“Youth Apprenticeship provides you many opportunities. Every month you have to track your hours working. There’s some questions about your job that you have to answer. Your employer has to fill out an evaluation every couple of months. Saying you participated in this program looks good on college applications. You are given money to spend on things you need for your job. “
A CNA is someone who cares for people and helps them perform their activities of daily living. This can be in somewhere like a nursing home, or a hospital. You have to complete a class and then obtain a state certification. This requires a written and a skills exam. If something like this interests you, talk to Ms. Braun who can help get you started. We can always use more CNAs!
Congratulations, Mallory! We are very proud of you. 🚀
