Class

Child Development Students create and facilitate original literacy experiences with their Kindergarten and First Grade classes.

This month, Child Development students created and presented their original literacy lessons to continue to encourage students in literacy skills of speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Lesson formation included selecting a book, creating a worksheet, and developing activities that promoted literacy techniques such as inferring, questioning, visualizing, synthesizing, and making connections.

It is about connection, growth, and confidence. Pairing high school students with early-elementary learners is a great way to encourage literacy and develop social-emotional skills in both age groups.

When we bring high schoolers and young readers together, we are building a nurturing community. It is a win-win scenario that fosters, as one study put it, a "double impact" of academic and social growth for everyone involved. I am so proud of these students who put time, effort, and kindness into their literacy lessons.
