Child

Students in Child Development earning their A.C.C.T. (Assistant Child Care Teacher) Certification through the Department of Public Instruction wrapped up their interaction hours in our Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms this week.  These students have done and outstanding job working up to facilitating original lesson plans tailored to the needs of the classrooms they were assigned to throughout the year.  I am impressed with their enthusiasm, kindness, and desire to increase understanding for young learners.

We have noted many benefits to this amazing partnership between the Child Development class and our six Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms.  High school students gain responsibility by mentoring younger students, which can boost their confidence and leadership abilities. Explaining concepts to younger students helps high schoolers refine their communication skills and develop their abilities to teach and explain complex topics in a simpler way.  Interacting with younger students can foster empathy and understanding, as they gain perspective on different developmental stages and needs.
