NLHS NHS INDUCTEES ANNOUNCED
Congratulations to the NLHS students that have been selected by the NLHS faculty to become a member of the elite National Honors Society.
The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921.
Student members must reflect the program’s respective pillars to be inducted—ideals such as scholarship, service, leadership, and character—and they must continue demonstrating these pillars within their community throughout their membership.
Congratulations to this year's inductees: Matthew Bennett, Abigail Cass, Austin Hare, Chris Hart, Ashton Pfaff, Hailey Remm, Natasha Reynolds, Keegan Shankle, Alissa Swisher, Lucas Vercimak, Sophie Weiland, and Ciera Hendrickson.

The results are IN! The Faculty games raised over $3,579 for senior scholarships! What amazing community support! Thank you to everyone for their donations and time involved with this project whether you worked behind the scenes, played basketball, bid on our baskets online, cheered on the Rockets, or donated anonymously. IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MRS. PREUSS
I am seeing a surge in students being diagnosed with strep throat this past week and a half. I would like to ask parents to watch their children for signs and symptoms of strep throat. As we have been stating this school year, keep them home and touch base with me if your child is sick. If they have been diagnosed with strep throat, the student must remain home until they have had a full 24 hours of antibiotics.

Get ready, Rocket fans! Our annual 8th grade Faculty Games will be a bit different this year, but we will still have our AWESOME RAFFLE BASKETS! We are in the process of collecting donations and creating these works of mastery. Baskets will be auctioned off the week of March 14. Questions? Wish to donate? Please contact Leah Faber. 562-3700

American service members put their lives on the line to defend the citizens of their country. They protect the freedoms we often take for granted, and uphold the principles and laws that govern us and make our nation unique. These people deserve more than our thanks – they deserve ongoing care and consideration. Some items that veterans are in need of are clothing, food and household items. Student Council will have boxes for you to donate items in front of the HS office as well as the detailed list of needed items. We will be collecting items until Christmas!

Seniors: Reminder to turn in your senior surveys, will and quote sheet to Ms. Costello as soon as possible. Please be sure to write your name on it. Don't forget to get your senior picture to her also. Remember a vertical headshot is preferred. All are due December 18th!

If you didn't get last year's yearbook there are still copies available for only $35. See Ms Costello to get yours.

Attention New Lisbon Rockets- Are you looking for that perfect Christmas gift? Mr. Morey’s Design and Engineering class has exactly what you're looking for. What is this gift you ask? WELCOME MR. ENGLEBRETSON
Today we welcome Mr. Adam Englebretson to the Rocket family as our NEW District Administrator! We look forward to working with you!
-----------------------
[From Juneau County Star Times]
New Lisbon School District has hired Mauston graduate Adam Englebretson as the new superintendent, replacing outgoing superintendent Dennis Birr at the close of the current school year.
The New Lisbon School Board chose Englebretson after a months’ long search that saw more than 30 candidates apply during two rounds of applications.
“He was easily my personal choice,” said Birr. “He has such a good perspective on education, on leadership, he understands working with people, he has good communication skills and will be a collaborative-type person. I’m really excited he’ll be the next person taking over for New Lisbon.”
The board received 24 applicants during the first round of applications, after which a select group was interviewed by Birr, the board, a community group and staff members. The board was unable to come to terms on a contract, and opened up the interview process for a second round which saw nine applicants apply. Due to COVID-19, the three applicants chosen to interview from the second round were interviewed only by Birr and the board.
“We were surprised how many good applicants there were,” Birr said. “All three interviews were really good choices, but Adam, to me, just stood head and shoulders above everyone else.”
Englebretson grew up in Mauston and graduated from Mauston High School in 1997. He earned an undergraduate degree from UW-La Crosse with a double major in history and secondary education and a minor in political science. Englebretson then completed his Master’s Degree in educational leadership at UW-Milwaukee, and will finish his Doctorate in the spring of 2021.
“I worked at the New Lisbon pool growing up in high school and college, forming relationships with not only the coworkers but the families and kids in the district,” Englebretson said. “It’s exciting to return back to that area that was so welcoming to me. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the communities who helped shape who you are.”
Currently, Englebretson is the high school principal at Random Lake High School, where he has worked for the previous six years. He started his career as a social studies teacher in the Plymouth School District, then moved to the Clinton School District as an activities director and assistant principal, and then the Sheboygan School District as a principal of curriculum and instruction.
“This is kind of a unique year, it allows us some flexibility to allow us to be in multiple places virtually at the same time,” Englebretson said. “I don’t know, beyond my initial research… what their focus is right now, but certainly we want to continue with the things they’ve been working towards and continue building in a positive direction.”

Today marks the end of our journey with our district administrator, Mr. Birr. He will be moving on to new adventures after 9+ years with the New Lisbon School District and 40+ years in education. What an amazing accomplishment.
Mr. Birr’s Vision 20/20 project enforced goal setting and successful improvements for our district. He spent countless hours educating our community on the need to pass the referendum for our additional operating costs and athletic field project. His steady hand, leadership, and mathematical genius was a lifeline for our district. We thank you for your dedication to our school family.
Mr. Birr, we wish you the best in the next chapter of your career and know the Rocket family will always be here for you.

Mobile Food Program will continue throughout the summer! Mondays 10:30 - Noon at Door #1.

The School District of New Lisbon is developing safe and responsible options to re-open schools for the 2020-2021 school year. We believe it is important to consider your feedback and needs as these plans are developed. The questions below are items being considered in order to provide our students with a safe environment conducive to learning. Final implementation may include some, all, or none of the scenarios described below, as situations may change before September. We value your feedback as an important stakeholder in your child's education, as we decide together how to re-open schools for the 2020-21 school year. If are unable to complete this survey online, paper copies will be available in the school offices.

***** A MESSAGE FROM MR. BIRR *****
"WILL SCHOOL OPEN IN THE FALL?"
How many times have you been asked that very question already? I get it every day and sometimes multiple times a day.
I can tell you that we, as a school leadership group are meeting every Tuesday to try to figure out a way to make that happen. Our intention is to try to find a way to have everyone in school everyday next fall. The same thing goes with sports and other activities. Can that work? We will see. It is a long time, in Covid months, until then.
All legal and insurance counsel says to check with county health officials. With the latest supreme court ruling, it is difficult for them to make a required closing or guaranteed opening to schools. Therefore it is up to each district to do what they feel is best. The school board will have the final say, but it is our goal to give them a plan for reopening that they will agree is in the best interests of the entire school community.
To help make that plan possible, two surveys will be coming out in the next couple of weeks, one for parents and one for staff. We want to assess each group's level of comfort in returning to school and what precautions that they feel are appropriate. Whatever the scenario, we must make school a welcoming environment in which people feel safe and cared for.
We are also looking at how we can continue to educate our students whose parents may not yet feel comfortable sending them back into the school, at least at the beginning of the school year. We want to keep all of our students moving forward in their education, whether they are in our building or not yet ready to attend in person.
Mr. Birr, New Lisbon Schools District Administrator
