Curriculum & Goals
"The illiterate of the year 2000 will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn."

~Alvin Toffler

The School District of New Lisbon strives for academic excellence. One of the ways we develop quality educational standards is to incorporate the Information & Technology Literacy Standards as developed by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. My curricular units have been matched to state standards and technology skills integrated into lessons.

Students who are information literate know how to use resources made available through both the Library and the World Wide Web to locate needed information. They understand the purposes, strengths, differences, and similarities of each provider and how they complement each other. An information literate student is able to use information resources effectively at each stage of a project, from defining a topic to critically evaluating the information found

The New Lisbon School District has demonstrated a commitment to the development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula and programs.  This K-12 Media Center document represents the culmination of intensive work and many hours of work to provide the best instructional information literacy lessons for  students in the New Lisbon School District.  Our media center is the epicenter of the learning community in grades K-12.

The library media curriculum outlines the philosophy and goals that guide the program.  Grade level objectives provide the structure from which classroom teacher and media specialist jointly share in the responsibility for delivering instruction knowledge to students.

The media specialist plays a key role by assisting teachers to develop quality lessons and providing the most up-to-date resources for today’s issues. Collaboration between teacher and media specialist is crucial in order to provide a complete educational experience for students.
