Despite the care taken to select materials for student and teacher use and the qualifications of the persons who select the materials, it is recognized that occasional objections may be raised by community members, students, or school staff.
In the event a complaint is made the following procedures will apply:

A copy of the questionnaire, taken from "The Student's Right to Read" by the National Council of Teachers of English, will be forwarded to the complainant, with the request that he fill it out and return it to the principal of the school.

Specific complaint will be determined.

| 3 |
The material in question will be removed from circulation until a decision is made on the action to be taken; this to guarantee its accessibility to those people charge with its review. It is recognized that all material deserves just consideration before it is removed from the school program.

The librarian and principal will review the questioned material to determine its history in the school program. If agreement is reached on an appropriate action, no further consultation is needed.

A review committee will be named by the principal for consideration of the questioned material. The committe will include at least one lay member and respresentatives from three academic disciplines. they will present a report to the principal relative to the action to be taken.

Following consideration by the principal and his staff, if it is the desire of the complaintant, the request shall be submitted to the District Administator.

Following consideration by the District Adminsitrator, if it is the desire of the complaintant, the request shall be submitted to the Board of Education for consideration.

Cooperation will be given to any parent wishing to restrict his or her own child from using materials which are objectionable to the parent. The librarian, with the parent, will try to work out a solution that will keep that family's child or children from checking out the materials the parent objects to, while still allowing free access for other children.
