A Night Without A Home Report 2011

The GIVE organization encouraged NL students to spend a night without a home at city hall on Friday, Nov. 4th, 2011.

Activities included a soup supper (donated by Target Bluff & Kwik Trip & served by the Lionesses Loretta Belgard & Denis Fleming), making fleece blankets for Lend a Hand, hearing from a speaker who volunteers with Lend a Hand and SEA of Change, viewing The Pursuit of Happiness, playing games, enjoying a campfire (provided by Bill Washetas), trying to get some sleep in our cardboard homes, and ended with a yummy breakfast provided by the Lions Club (Mark Toelle & John Gregar).

There were 29 students who participated in this event by raising money and/or spending the night.  On Friday night, November 4th, 2011, we spend 12 hours outside (7 pm- 7 am) and raised a total of $2700.00.

Our chairperson was Derek Emery.  Derek collected donations for prizes in the form of gift certificates from the following businesses:

Dave & Sheri Butler - 2 $10.00 gift cards from Kwik Trip
Anjeros - $20 gift certificate
Taco Bell- 4 free items
Mc Donald's - 10 free sandwiches
Mauston Park Oasis - $20 gift certificate
China Buffet - $10 gift certificate
Pizza Hut - 1 large pizza
Sports Page - $25 gift certificate

A special thank you to Ms. Mecikowski for dealing with the money, her involvement with SEA of Change & Lend a Hand and spending the night.

Trick or Treating for the Food Pantry Report

What:  Trick-or-Treating for the Food Pantry

When:  Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 4-6

Who:  Abbey Lutz, Lindsey Elsing, Hailee Rydmark, Leah Nicksic, Ben Wyss, Kayla Boss, Robert Labate, Andrew Steiskal, Breanna Borcherdt, Jazz Malouff, Justin Giebel, Katrina Gouker, Codi Christopherson, Hillary Hadley, Dani Benson, Kyrsten Pedersen, Ashly Kline, Kelly Huffman, Ashley Huffman, Marshal Toelle, Nick Fleming, Jenna Washetas, Lydia LaBudda, Hannah Johnson, Mrs. Morey, and Colleen Woggon.

Details:  In five groups, we collected over 400 lbs. of food during the city trick or treating hours.  The food was delivered to the Food Pantry in New Lisbon.  The whole event overall was very successful!

Trick-or-Treating was followed by a Halloween Party in Mrs. Morey’s room, which included wagon racing and a search through the canned goods and sorting.  There was also a costume contest:  heaviest-- Justin Giebel, most likely to be kissed by Elmo—breanna borcherdt?, most likely to be worn by Lady Gaga—Hillary Hadley, Cutest—Brayen Morey, and hardest to run away in—Colleen Woggon.
