“What we learn with pleasure we never forget.” –Louis Mercer
This quote has always guided me as a learner and a teacher. Learning can be fun! I believe that incorporating energizers, meaningful activities, and student led debates or discussions can get students engaged in and excited about their learning. I love to try new teaching methods and strategies that aim to get students to take ownership of their learning. I have found that most students in my classroom have fun learning because of challenging activities, teamwork in the classroom, and using a variety of teaching methods.
I began teaching with the New Lisbon District in 2004 as the Family and Consumer Educator. I enjoy the wide variety of subjects that family and consumer education encompasses. Foods, personal finance, child development, and consumer skills are some of the subjects taught in this discipline. I am passionate about family and consumer education because it teaches students life skills that they can put to use in their life currently and in the future. Everyone is a member of a family and everyone is a consumer; family and consumer education focuses on teaching students how to successfully participate in our roles as family members, consumers, and community members.
As teacher I am committed to my students as an educator and a role model. I feel it is important to address life skills and character education alongside the academic curriculum. I have found many ways to support students as an coach, advisor, and mentor. I am excited about my profession and enjoy working with and watching the students grow into contributing adults.
