This is my 11th year of teaching kindergarten, my 10th in New Lisbon, and I am very excited to begin a new journey with 16 eager kindergartners! I received my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education, with a minor in Early Childhood Education in 2002 from Viterbo University. I also completed my Masters of Education in Professional Development in May of 2007 from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
Mission Statement
Why do I want to exist as a master teacher?
I want to exist as a master teacher for various reasons and factors throughout my life. As far back as I can remember I have had one profession in mind, teaching. This fire was only fueled throughout my years as a student. I have encountered many master teachers that I have modeled my teaching after and many teachers who were not master teachers that I work very hard not to follow. I make a difference every day and I want to continue to do so. I allow students of all ability levels and backgrounds to be successful in my classroom. I offer a safe place were children feel a part of a community of learners where they are able to express themselves and learn each day. I want to exist as a master teacher so that each child who enters my classroom can learn to be part of a community, respect each other, and to be responsible for themselves and their actions. I want to exist as a master teacher to allow tomorrow to be formed each day in my classroom.
Vision Statement
What do I hope to become?
I hope to become a life-long learner who continues to strive to make the best possible learning experience for every child that enters my classroom. I want to continue to reach every child and learn new effective ways to do this. I will create a community with in my classroom that allows my students to feel safe and welcome. Each child will have the chance to be successful in kindergarten and learn what is needed to be successful in the years to come.
I want to become someone that other teachers can come to for new ideas or help with specific situations. I want to share all that I have and will learn from my experience to help to have the best possible staff in place in my school district. I want to create a team of kindergarten teachers that are on the same page at my grade level so that we are assuring our students the best possible opportunities at the kindergarten level.
I want to become a master teacher that always allows the “kids to come first”, after all that is why I became a teacher. As a kindergarten teacher, I am the foundation for these children and I want to be as strong as I can be.
Values
How must I behave to allow the mission and the vision to come true?
My values are the most important component of my Professional Development Plan (PDP). If I do not hold these values close and portray them every day, my students will not hold these values close and my classroom will not function.
*Patience- I must be able to take the time and allow each child to reach their potential in their time, not mine.
*Life Long Learner- I must continue to keep myself current with all of the new research about learning and teaching so
that I am giving each student their best shot.
*Motivating/Excited about my subjects- I must be able to keep my students attention and make them interested in the
learning process.
*Flexibility- I must be able to change things in an instance and work at the pace of the learner not the teacher.
*Organization- I must be able to be ready for all teachable moments and have materials ready to go so that we can move
on if need be or go back if needed. I have to know what I am doing so that the children do not lose interest or allow
distracting behavior.
As well as following my own set of the values that are most important to me, I will be following the values that my Tomah Learning Community has developed that will lead me in my journey to becoming a Master Teacher.
*Responsibility- being accountable to yourself and others (community, students, and profession) while striving for
excellence
*Honesty-being truthful with yourself and with others, while providing constructive feedback, being open-minded and
genuine; devoid of fraud
*Respect-responding sensitively to others without dismissing of degrading them while honoring individualism
*Family- a community of learners who unite around common values, goals, and interests
