Behavior Expectations (PE, Art, and Music)
The following behavior model will be utilized in the PE, Art, and Music classrooms.
Students will participate in the following instructional method of greeting/gathering, instruction/activity, and closing circle/closing message. If during any of this time a student commits educational bullying by disrupting the learning of other students the following will occur:
1st occurrence: Student will be given a verbal warning or sign from the teacher as a reminder to stop the offending behavior. If behavior ceases this will be the end of the matter.
2nd occurrence: Student will be directed to “Take a Break.” This means the student will be directed to move to a designated location in the classroom. While in the “Take a Break” location the student is given the opportunity to reflect on the behavior, regain their self control, and should return to the group for a fresh start. If the student fixes the offending behavior this will be the end of the matter. The teacher may choose to reflect with the student at the end of the class period to discuss the students’ choice to return with a fresh attitude. (“Take a Break” my be revisited as many times as necessary during one class period.)
3rd occurrence: If a student continues to escalate behavior while in “Take a Break”, refuses to go to “Take a Break” or continues to commit educational bullying and disrupting the learning of the other students, the offending student will be sent to the office. The Principal will then follow the school model for consequences.
We are committed to the learning of all students and so it is imperative that the classroom be an environment in which learning can take place. If a student chooses to disrupt this learning they are given the chance to make a better choice to stop the disruptive behavior and rejoin the learning.
